FAIR HAVEN, N.Y. -- Cayuga County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a drowning death after an Oswego man jumped into the water at Little Sodus Bay.
Cayuga County Sheriff's deputies said Marcos Peralta, 27, was visiting Fair Haven State Park with family and friends when he and several other people decided to jump in the water off the East Pier. Witnesses told investigators that Peralta appeared to struggle to stay afloat, and then began to panic before going under.
He was pulled ashore by the group he was with, and an EMT who happened to be at the park performed CPR until the ambulance arrived, but Peralta died after arriving at Oswego Hospital.
Deputies said swimming is strictly prohibited in the area where the drowning took place.
