BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Yankees are World Champions for the 27th time. But how does that play in New York's Southern Tier, which shares a border with the home state of the series rival Philadelphia Phillies?
What's clear from those in the Town of Dickinson is that Yankee fans far outnumber fans of that "other" team three hours south. And while Yankees fans are thrilled at their victory, the local Phillies faithful are tasting bitter defeat.
"I was yellin', throwing pillows around. I wasn't too happy," said Phillies fan Justin Waee. "I thought they could have come back, they had a couple chances but."
"I found out that they won and I almost cried. I love the Yankees. We took it. Number 27. A-Rod. It's about time. Let's get another one. Number 28 next year. New stadium, new team! Too bad Matsui gotta go though," said Yankees fan Julio Rivera.
The Yankees will hold a ticker-tape parade in New York City Friday to mark the championship.
