BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Tarik Abdelazim has taken the next step in his campaign to become Broome County Executive.

Abdelazim submitted more than 2,500 petition signatures to the Broome County Board of Elections. Elections officials say that is the most signatures submitted by any County Executive Candidate in the Democratic Party within the last ten years.

The step secures Abdelazim a spot on the ballot as a Democratic Candidate. He says he is ready for the challenge.

"People don't want campaign gimmicks or empty promises. They want a leader with a track record of success and integrity and who has real solutions to get the county through difficult times and I'm eager to get that message out to more and more Broome County residents," Abdelazim said.

Abdelazim will face current Broome County Executive Debbie Preston for a chance at a four year term.

Preston also presented her petition Tuesday, which contained more than 4,000 signatures.
