Dame’s Rocket, also known as Hesperis, is an invasive, early-summer blooming purple flowering plant found all over Upstate New York. The plant is often confused with Phlox. Dry shade is a really hard place to grow plants because there is no water or light, especially near roads where lots of salt is left in the winter. However epimedium, commonly known as barrenwort, grows very well in dry shade.
