LANSING, N.Y. -- Severe storms swept through the region Wednesday afternoon, prompting a tornado warning in Franklin County. Much further south, the effects of the storm were felt in Tompkins County.

Emergency crews scrambled to secure downed power lines and clear trees out of the road in the Town of Lansing. High winds did most of the damage.

Firefighters and police from all over the area helped control traffic while NYSEG workers repaired the lines.

Across the region, thousands of customers lost power.
