As the push to become a more environmentally friendly planet continues, technology companies are developing new products to help out with the transition. One of those businesses sits right in Herkimer County. Our Jim Gibbons got a look inside to see what new products Fiberdyne Labs has to offer.
FRANKFORT, N.Y. -- There's a lot going on across the floor at Fiberdyne Labs. The Frankfort based business specializes in fiber optic technologies.
"We make very sophisticated products from laser concentrators, we have products that can take 72 lasers and put them over one fiber," said Peter Polus, CEO at Fiberdyne Labs.
Complicated stuff, but they make it look easy. For example, this LED stop light will be added to the back of a bus. It uses modern technology to keep drivers safe on the roads.
But that's not all they're working on. Fiberdyne is shedding new light in the energy efficiency field as well, such as this LED light, which could replace standard ceiling florescent lights, saving money in the long run.
"It's being well excepted in the marketplace because it saves 50 percent on the energy," said Polus.
Other energy efficient products are in the works at Fiberdyne as well. Both State Senator James Seward and Assemblyman Marc Butler agree that this technology is important for the future.
"I think it proves, once again, that energy efficiency products, the development and environmentally sound product development is very good for our economy," said Seward.
"What they're able to do with the LED light and the energy savings they can provide and how much more environmentally safe they are, I think that is a market that has great potential," said Butler.
And executives with the company say they have plans to expand their business in the near future.
