Gulf Oil Spill 2010
On April 20, 2010, a Deepwater Horizon rig sank off the coast of Louisiana, causing an explosion that killed 11 people. Months later, authorities are still continuing to search for a solution to cap the well, making it the largest oil spill in history.

Just how big is the Gulf Oil spill? Here are some resources to put the size of the spill into perspective.

• Tracking the Gulf oil disaster | CNN.com has an interactive feature that tracks the spread of the spill. The feature begins on April 22nd and continues to plot the area affected by the spill. The feature also shows the areas closed to fishing and uses an Olympic size pool to illustrate the amount of oil that has spilled into the ocean.
