ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The end of the school year means the end of cafeteria lunches for students. But the Food Bank of the Southern Tier has kids in Chemung and Steuben counties covered.
The Food Bank’s Summer Food Service Program Picnics in the Park kicked off Monday. This year, a $20,000 grant from Feeding America allowed the Food Bank to expand its locations to Sullivan Park in Horseheads, Oakridge Park in Elmira Heights, Hathorn Park and Quatrano Park in Elmira.
Children under 18 can go to those parks and more than a dozen others to pick up lunches throughout the summer.
"I think it's really great to be able to help out people and a lot of people don't have as much food as other people and I think it's great that they're doing this," said Elmira resident Briana Carl.
The program continues through August 31st.
The Steuben County locations start offering the program July 9th.
