ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Hundreds of people showed up for Oneida County's first open H1N1 flu clinic in Utica.
The county recently received 1,500 doses of the vaccine and opened up the County Office Building on the holiday to distribute it to the public. The shots were free, but were only given to at risk age groups or people with underlying health conditions.
"In most cases, this virus has shown to be no more serious than seasonal flu. In most patients. But, for younger people in particular, they tend to be at risk and if you have an underlying health condition the H1N1 could pose some very serious health complications," said Oneida County health Department Spokesman Ken Fanelli.
The county expects to hold more clinics once they receive additional doses, including clinics at schools.
