UTICA, N.Y. -- Students at Columbus Elementary school have a lot to be thankful for. For the first time in the school's history, they have a playground to use.

The playground cost more than $30,000. Assembly woman RoAnn Destito helped to secure $17,000 grant money. Destito's office got involved back in 2006, when the PTO asked for help.

"This is the best thing for them. It'll get them outside. It'll be something they can do outside beside running around. It's great physical fitness opportunities for them because it's not like a standard playground of swings and slides. It's got climbing activities," said principal Dona Dawes.

Columbus Elementary has 700 students in grades K through 12.
