UTICA, N.Y. -- Utica is going green with help from stimulus funding.
More than $587,000 will help the city and local businesses with various energy saving projects. Some of those projects include installing high efficiency bulbs at the F.X. Matt Brewery and upgrading pedestrian lights and lighting at Utica's Wankel Field and replacing the chiller at the Utica Memorial Auditorium Ice Rink.
Congressman Michael Arcuri says this will not only save money on energy bills, but the installation will create jobs.
The CEO of the Matt Brewery says this funding is a big help.
"We had looked at this project several years ago. We knew it was the right to do, but it was really expensive. And so we just weren't able to make economic sense out of it. The beauty of this is because of this grant, we'll be able to undertake it. We'll go beyond the grant," said F.X. Matt Brewery CEO Nick Matt.
The brewery has already started installing the new lighting. It has hired all local contractors to do so.
