UTICA, N.Y. -- It's already been a busy holiday weekend for the Utica Police Department. It began late Wednesday when units were called to a home on Dudley Avenue for a report of shots fired. There, they found George Garrow, 66, murdered. Garrow was registered as a level three sex offender after being convicted of sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy back in 1988.
The violence continued early Friday morning outside of Spilka's Hotel. Police were called to the area for a reported fight. There, they found two men who had been cut. Both were taken to a local hospital, where one died from his injuries.
"It's been hectic, we're trying to use our resources the best way we can, come affective in trying to investigate both homicides at the same time," said Utica Police Chief Daniel LaBella.
Despite the fact that both incidents happened around Thanksgiving Day, Chief LaBella says his department is at full staff and has been working around the clock to solve both cases.
"Unfortunately, when you do have a homicide, they're very, as all crimes are taken very seriously. We try to devote as much resources available to solve these," said LaBella.
The murders are the fourth and fifth within the city of Utica this year.
So far, no arrests have been made in either case. If you have any information, call the Utica Police Criminal Investigations Office at (315) 223-3510.
