UTICA, N.Y. -- Utica's future is on the table for discussion. The city is working on a master plan.

Committees were formed to come up with ideas for five areas: Housing and neighborhood development, business and technology, downtown development, parks and recreation and infrastructure.

Some of their initial goals for the next 10 to 15 years include promoting first time home buyer programs, redeveloping Brownfield sites and creating pedestrian friendly streets.

This plan is still a work in progress.

"Once we have a draft set of goals and action strategies, we'll be back out to the community and ask them for their input comments and ideas on the draft we present to them," said Urban Planning Director Brian Thomas.

Next month there will be a community open house to get input on these ideas. The master plan is expected be finalized by the end of April.
