HERKIMER, N.Y. -- It will now be easier for students who started their college careers at one Mohawk Valley school to get their bachelor's degrees without leaving the area.

The new Pathways Transfer Program will allow Herkimer County Community College graduates to transfer all of the credits earned at the school to SUNY Empire State College.

The program applies to any SUNY Empire location, a detail officials hope will encourage students to keep calling New York, and the Mohawk Valley, their home.

"We have 35 locations across the state. The closest one to this community is in Utica and so there's hardly a person in New York State who isn't able to drive fairly quickly to an Empire State College location," said Alan Davis, president of SUNY Empire State College.

HCCC's president says similar programs are in the works with other four-year schools in the area.
