ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Members of the law enforcement community continues to investigate the death of their colleague and friend.

When Deputy Wyman and the other deputy arrived on the scene in Knoxboro Monday night, the suspect, Christian Patterson, barricaded himself in his garage with a shotgun. After a nearly six hour standoff, investigators say Patterson shot deputy Wyman and fired a second shot at other officers. Deputies returned fire, hitting Patterson several times.

Wyman died at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center.

Patterson is also being treated at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Utica. Authorities say once he is medically cleared he will be charged with first degree aggravated murder a crime that carries a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
