LAFAYETTE, N.Y. -- The LaFayette School District is working to close a $300,000 budget gap.

District leaders are looking at the state's current aid proposal and seeking advice from board members on where and what to cut.

LaFayette has lost more than a million dollars in state aid in both of the past two years, even as expenses keep going up.

The superintendent says the district can no longer rely on its fund balance and it is cuts on the state level that have put them in this position.

"When I took office here four years ago, there was a promise from Albany that we'd get regular increases in our foundation aid. The year after I came, they stopped doing that and then started a gap elimination adjustment and that's what's hurt our district and districts like ours," said Peter Tigh, LaFayette School District Superintendent.

Superintendents from throughout Onondaga County will gather at a school board's breakfast this weekend, where they will discuss their budget woes with lawmakers.
