County to investigate First Arena

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Last week, Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli said he wanted time to investigate the operations of the First Arena, and Monday night he got his wish.
The Chemung County legislature unanimously voted to table the repurchase offer by the owners of the arena. That decision allows the county executive the time to bring in a consultant to review the past 12 years of operations at First Arena.
Santulli said the investigation should be complete by the end of June when he will present the findings to the legislature and the repurchase offer for the First Arena can be voted on. Santulli said the building has had problems like a non-functioning sprinkler system, and has gone through periods of time with no insurance.
