GREENSBORO, N.C. – Deliberations began Friday, but by early afternoon, jurors knew they wouldn't have a verdict that day and asked the judge if they could come back after the weekend.

Jurors requested evidence regarding the money given to the Edwards campaign by heiress Rachel Bunny Mellon. Experts say it suggests they were focusing on the charges that Edwards took illegal campaign donations.

Former federal prosecutor Kieran Shanahan say they'll likely move onto donations made by Fred Barron.

"Remember, unlike Bunny Mellon, who wrote checks that ultimately found their way into Andrew Young's bank accounts, Mr. Barron actually paid expenses to the hotel and to the builder for Andrew Young, so they are a whole different type of expenditure from the Bunny money,” he said.

Experts say the deliberation is shaping up to be a marathon, not a sprint.

Edwards could face up to 30 years in prison and a $1.5 million fine.
