FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- The soldiers of Fort Drum participated in a big football video game tournament Wednesday, with support from a professional cheering squad.

The Washington Redskin Cheerleaders and the Adopt-A-Soldier Platoon program were at the post's USO to meet with the troops.

The soldiers played Madden NFL '12 on X-Box for a chance at great prizes, including iPads, Kindle Fires and even the Madden video game.

"It's just really neat to see how they live and to know about where they come from and how long their contract is, what they've done. It's just nice to get to know them," said Maigan, a Washington Redskin cheerleader.

"Our mission is to improve the morale of the troops. I don't think much improves the morale more than cheerleaders. It's as American as it gets," said Alan Krutchkoff, Adopt-A-Soldier Platoon President.

Adopt-A-Soldier Platoon adopted two Fort Drum units last year. The program has brought the cheerleaders to Afghanistan and Kuwait in the past.
