NEWFIELD, N.Y. -- A crash involving a jack-knifed tractor trailer left four people injured and shut down Route 13 in Newfield for five hours Friday.

The Tompkins County Sheriff says the tractor trailer was driving north on Route 13 when an SUV stopped in front of it to make a left turn. The truck hit the SUV and forced it into oncoming traffic, where it hit another car.

The passenger in the car was airlifted to Upstate University Hospital. Two other people were also transported to nearby hospitals.

The driver of the tractor trailer was treated at the scene and issued a ticket for following too closely.

State Police are assisting the sheriff's department in the ongoing investigation.
