HAMMONDSPORT, N.Y. -- Hammondsport's celebration of winning the title of "Coolest Small Town in America" Saturday included a special guest. Will McGough blogged about his adventures of a trip through this year's top small towns. McGough spent the time finding out how you could spend a vacation in some of the nation's smaller communities like Beaufort, North Carolina, Cape May, New Jersey, Damascus, Virginia, and Hammondsport, New York.

He said that he hopes his trip inspires other people to see the vacation value of small towns.

"The common person has this idea that well, I can't travel because I don't have the money to go to Hawaii or to Paris or to Rome. My thing was just say, look, just because it's a small town, doesn't mean that there isn't big opportunities," said McGough. "To your average Joe who lives two hours from here can just drive his car here with his family of four and affordably have a week-long vacation or long weekend and it doesn't have to be a sexy destination."
