LIVERPOOL, N.Y. - The rematch was much closer than the first meeting but the result was the same as Onondaga West beat Onondaga East 7-6 on Sunday to win its second-straight Babe Ruth 16-18 Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament championship.
Onondaga West went 4-0 in the tournament including a 12-4 victory over the younger East team in the opening round on Thursday. East battled back to make the final from the losers bracket by winning four elimination games in two days and put a scare into their older counterparts by rallying from a 5-0 deficit and putting the tying run at third with two out in the seventh, but West hung on with a flyout to seal the victory.
