RUSSIA, N.Y. -- Firefighters had to deal with intense, gasoline-fueled flames while battling a fire in Russia, Herkimer County overnight.

State Police say it started when the homeowner poured gasoline throughout the Grant Road home and farm house. He then crashed his vehicle into a front loader in front of the house, killing himself in the collision. Troopers say he was distraught over marital problems.

The buildings continued to smolder Thursday morning. Because the fire was so intense, investigators planned to wait to check if any animals were killed.

No one else was injured in the fire.
