Accountant charged with stealing more than $294,000 from elderly client

UTICA, N.Y. -- A Utica accountant has been charged with stealing more than a quarter of a million dollars from his elderly client.

Utica Police say they were called to a local nursing home back in April where an 85-year-old woman said she noticed numbers in her accounts weren't adding up. Investigators teamed up with the Elder Abuse Coalition Program and found that her accountant, Craig Podosek, 60, made four transfers from her account to his business and personal accounts. Police say he was able to do this because he had power of attorney, and the transfers totaled more than $294,000.

Podosek is charged with three counts of second degree and one count of third degree grand larceny.
