Utica Police respond to two shooting incidents hours apart
UTICA, N.Y. -- It was a busy night for Utica Police Monday as officers responded to two shooting incidents in the city.
First, just after 10 p.m., officers were on patrol when they saw shots being fired from a car into a house on the corner of Schuyler and Wager streets. Officers pursued the car until three suspects jumped out and fled. They were able to apprehend Antar Handy, 23, of Brooklyn. Officers also retrieved a gun and several packages of heroin and crack cocaine from the car. Handy has been charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon.
Three people were sent to the hospital following a separate shooting that happened after midnight. Police say someone fired multiple shotgun rounds into a group gathered in the 500 block of Nichols Street. None of the injuries appeared to be life threatening.
