Former North Norwich postmaster sentenced
CHENANGO COUNTY, N.Y. -- A former postmaster for the North Norwich Post Office has been sentenced for stealing government funds.
James Ives, 65, admitted in March that he had embezzled more than $7,000 between February 2008 and December 2011. The theft was discovered during an audit by the Office of Inspector General.
Ives has re-paid the postal service the money he stole, but as part of his sentence, he will still serve one year of probation, 50 hours of community service and pay a $1,000 fine.
