A Syracuse teen is behind bars after a series of events, including a robbery and police chase. The 17-year-old suspect allegedly robbed a man with a knife and stole his car and wallet. It started just after 10 p.m. Thursday near Syracuse University and ended in DeWitt. Iris St. Meran has more.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Saio Barzee, 17, kept Syracuse Police and some other agencies busy Thursday night. But officials are happy he is off the street.

Just after 10 p.m., investigators say Barzee approached a man at the intersection of Comstock Avenue and East Colvin Street asking if he had change for a $20. The victim thought this was suspicious and walked away. Barzee followed him and that man called police.

A short time later, a woman noticed a man trying to cut the screen to enter her home. She wasn't able to identify the suspect, but police believe it was Barzee.

Around 10:30 p.m., a man was approached by Barzee on Lancaster Avenue. As he was reaching into his vehicle, police say Barzee stabbed him and forced the victim into his home, stealing computers. He wanted the victim to take him to the ATM, but the victim was able to get away and Barzee stole his car.

Just before 11 p.m., an officer spotted Barzee and that's when the chase ensued.

"Took approximately 18 minutes. At one point, near the corner of Thompson and Alpine Drive, stop sticks were deployed on the vehicle. They had the desired effect by flattening the tires on the prism," Syracuse Police Deputy Police Chief Shawn Broton said.

That caused the vehicle to hit an unmarked police car. A detective had a minor injury because of it.

Barzee fled on foot, but police did arrest him. He's facing numerous charges, including criminal possession of a weapon, grand larceny and assault.

Police did not release a mug shot because they believe he may be involved with other incidents in the area.
