Utica doctor charged with health care fraud

UTICA, N.Y. -- A Utica doctor has been accused of a multi-million dollar health care fraud scheme. Dilip Kachare, 58, was indicted by a grand jury on three counts of health care fraud and 16 counts of mail fraud.

Prosecutors say between 2002 and last September, Kachare submitted false claims to Medicare, Medicaid and private insurers for medical services. They say it would have been impossible for any doctor to have provided the services claimed in the course of a day.

The alleged fraud totals $12 million. Kachare pleaded not guilty to the charges.
