SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The man responsible for a string of arson fires in Syracuse's Tipperary Hill neighborhood - including one that left a man dead - will spend at least the next 25 years in prison.

Shayne Davis, 32, was sentenced Tuesday morning in Onondaga County Court. Last month, he pleaded guilty to charges in connection with six fires that happened over the summer. One of those fires, at a home on Cayuga Street, killed 90-year-old Frederick Brown.

Davis was arrested in July and pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and second-degree arson. He received two 25-year sentences for those charges, which will run concurrently.

The prosecution says it's an appropriate sentence.

Davis was also sentenced to five years of post-release probation.
