SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- 15 individuals are being honored for their courage and efforts to help others. This year's heroes come from four counties including Onondaga, Oswego, Cayuga, and Madison counties.
The crowd will have breakfast, view videos that were produced by some of our staff at YNN, while the honorees will then receive their awards. Red Cross representatives say it's really special to see everyday people do extraordinary things.
"A lot of people are just civilians. We have a gentleman who drove by and saw a man being chased by a bull and he hopped out of his car to help. I mean it's really anyone who we hear about a great story. Some folks are nominated, sometimes we find out great stories from the press, and we're very excited when we can bring them all together," said Rosie Taravella, CNY Red Cross Regional CEO.
The Red Cross hopes to raise about $200,000 this year which will go directly to its disaster relief fund.
