ROME, N.Y. -- The City of Rome unanimously approved their 2013 budget Wednesday night and residents say they are thankful for the changes that were made.

When the budget was first presented in October, Mayor Joe Fusco announced a tax hike of more than five percent for residents living outside city lines. But after months of work and crunching numbers, the tax hike is down to 0.7 percent.

Council members say cuts throughout the city were made to bring the tax rate down.

“These are tough economic times. It’s going to be a difficult year and this is definitely a bare bones budget,” Rome Councilmember Frank Anderson said.

City council members say their biggest struggle is a lack of revenue and in order to stay afloat, they’ll have to start getting creative to find other sources of income.
