SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Kids at a Syracuse elementary school help hundreds of other kids have a great Christmas. Students at the Syracuse Academy of Science collected 225 toys in December to donate to the Elmcrest Children's Center.

Friday, the students presented the center with all of the toys. School officials say the mission of the school is to give back to the community they live in.

"Most of our children live in this community. A lot of them needed toys themselves, but they heard about what was going on at different schools across the country and they said, you know what, I want to do my part to bring a smile to another child. If this toy is going to make another child's Christmas brighter, let's do it," said Charisse Glass, Academy of Science Secretary.

This year, the school collected about three times as many toys as they did last year.
