SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- First responders are on the minds of many after the tragedy in Webster on Christmas Eve. But the tragic events didn't stop those from coming into work, even on this holiday.

Fire Station 3 in Syracuse was staffed and as always, ready to respond to emergencies. And even with the daily potential for danger in their line of work, many say the company they're surrounded by helps them to keep things in perspective, even on the holidays.

"I miss being with my family these days. My children have grown up, but these guys in the fire house are my other family, so I do enjoy spending time with them, too," said Lt. Rick Ottaviano.

Those at Station 3 say they will continue to work whenever needed, as it's part of their responsibility to protect the community.
