Audit finds issues with snowmobile club funds

HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A new audit accuses the Herkimer County Snowmobile Association treasurer of redirecting funds into his own snowmobile club.

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says treasurer Pat Deyle admitted falsifying grooming logs. Auditors claim that nearly $3,500 was improperly directed to the Ilion snow drifters club.

Findings were referred to the Herkimer County District Attorney's Office.

The accusations were part of an audit of the Office of Parks and Historic Preservation. DiNapoli says that office needs to provide better oversight to make sure money is going to the proper snowmobile clubs.
