ROME, N.Y. -- Senator Joe Griffo and Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi decided to switch up their ceremonial swearing in this year and make it a little more educational. They were both sworn in twice Friday for elementary school students.

The students at Bellamy Elementary in Rome and Watson Williams in Utica got to witness the oath of office first-hand.

Brindisi and Griffo also took questions from the students. They even gave them a preview of what the new legislative sessions could mean for their schools.

“That really resonates with even youngsters, so they'll understand, 'Wow! We need to be interested and informed, and at some point involved,’” said Griffo.

In answering the students' questions, both said business and education reform were the top issues to tackle this year.
