ILION, N.Y. -- A major company in Herkimer County has been in the spotlight a lot lately and now its future is up for discussion.

Village of Ilion officials will be talking about Remington Arms at a meeting on Monday.

The gun manufacturer employs more than a thousand people. It produces assault rifles like the Bushmaster, which was the focus of the Sandy Hook tragedy in Connecticut.

Senator Charles Schumer recently announced his support for military weapons production at the plant. Representative Richard Hanna sent a letter to Governor Cuomo, asking him to consider the economic impact of gun control laws.

Monday's meeting will discuss job retention the plant. It's scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Municipal Building on Morgan Street.
