SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- It wasn't just fun and games, but also some fierce competition at the Museum of Science and Technology. The "MOST" hosted the VEX Robotics Competition on Thursday.

Twenty-seven teams from nine Syracuse city schools participated, all building their own robots. Organizers say the competition correlates with what the students are learning in the school as well.

Science and Technology Coordinator William Ottman said, "They really apply what they learn in the classroom in an authentic experience, so they're actually engineering, designing a robot and then building it, so it's really true STEM education."

The winners get to compete in a regional competition in Massachusetts and can eventually move on to nationals. Last year, Syracuse had a team take first place.

The subjects of Science Technology, Engineering and Math are also the focus of Time Warner Cable's Connect a Million Minds program.
