UTICA, N.Y.-- Ten months and $5 million later, the latest addition to Utica's downtown transportation transformation is finally open.

Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri cut the ribbon on the multi-modal transportation center Thursday.

The new hub will move bus traffic off Genesee Street, allowing nine buses to park at a time. It also features indoor facilities and travel information.

Palmieri says the project is just another piece of the puzzle in the city's downtown renovation plans.

"There's a lot of excitement in our downtown area," he said, "and that's the heart of the City of Utica, and this is just a piece that makes the heart beat a little bit quicker."

The opening of the center also means Centro will end service to five stops.

As of February 4, they will no longer serve stops at:
1. The Radisson Hotel (on Genesee St.)
2. Elizabeth St. and Genesee St.
3. Lafayette St. and Genesee St.
4. Franklin Square (on Genesee St.)
5. APAC Center (on Genesee St.)
