JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. -- Wind and snow are combining to make for some tricky driving in the North Country. The blowing snow has been leading to whiteout conditions in many areas, including along Interstate 81 in Jefferson County.

Police, fire and ambulance crews have been busy responding to several accidents in the area.

One accident that happened just after 1 p.m. forced authorities to close I-81 South between exits 45 and 44 in the town of Watertown.

Lewis County has issued a travel advisory because of the hazardous conditions.
