New Haven veteran attends State of the Union as Congressman Maffei’s guest

By: Web Staff

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A local, wounded veteran was given the chance to attend President Obama's State of the Union Address.

Ryan Wilcox, 24, of New Haven, attended the event, thanks to Congressman Dan Maffei.

Maffei offered his only guest ticket to Wilcox, who spent time serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Wilcox has been undergoing rehabilitation from a gunshot wound in 2008 that caused significant nerve damage in his leg.

When Obama was talking about wounded veterans during his address, they pointed the camera at Wilcox and Maffei in the audience.
